I agree with the website changes and would like to suggest the following bullet points for this push for Christmas Packet (or are we saying parcels) BECAUSE, we need to also make the push on Facebook at the same time:
* What if you were a 5-12 year old orphan...running after school to stand in a line that stretches as far as you can see?
*Once a month you get to stand that line for enough food to make 3-4 meals for your family.
*You do this because you are the head of your family; the sole provider for a family of orphaned younger siblings... because of AIDS.
$30 will provide a very Special Christmas food packet for one family of Aids Orphans. Give... and spread the Joy of Christmas
I like Joan's bullet points. I do think we should take the other donation campaigns off the website for now until the Christmas push is over. Are we also going to take off the links that go to the other ministry sites?
We will do the above bullets on the home page for Christmas if everyone is finished commenting. We will NOT take the other links off as people researching for purposes of longevity and partnering would be without resource to connect with HIHIA Please look at the following for the Home Page after Christmas. We are researching pictures for the "after" Home Page now: HandinHandin Africa, HIHIA, identifies and supports HIV/AIDS projects and programs throughout Southern Africa dedicated to: * Treating and eradicating HIV/AIDS * Promoting HIV education/awareness: "How do I get AIDS?" * Expanding successful efforts * Orphan care * Investing in a Legacy of Hope for the future of infected/affected * Fighting stigma of HIV * Early childhood development for critical thinking skills as young adults
Still have not set up my profile, this is Joan. to me 'Heart-string' bullet points of some sort will still be needed for the website home page and remove the information regarding the Christmas dinners. On most websites there is a 'tab' that says "About us"; that would be my choice for the spot to have the more technical description of what HIHIA is dedicated to accomplishing. I think those tabs can stay there always, even durning Christmas.
Only remove other buttons for a very limited time frame, no more than four to six weeks. People may not be able to do Christmas and will be looking for other opportunities.
Picutres of a day in the life of a child head of household. Have them pop up in order of their day, walking for water, gathering firewood, starting the water, placing the pot over the fire, stiring the "POP" as it cooks, serving the younger children and last but not least eating the pop. Washing their clothers outside in a tub, throwing them over a bush to dry. What is their daily routine?? Not turning on a stove, a light or a faucet or washing machine or dryer.
WOW--ANDY! I am so impressed critiquing is difficult, but here goes: Is there a way to make the new pictures bigger? And to crop out the adult? (It looks as though she is feeding/cooking for the children.) On the banner pictures there are women dancing in a line...for now (Christmas packet push) could we only have pictures of children?
What about moving the top verbiage to the bottom of the page; especially if the pictures can be bigger. Hmmm, the page size could be an issue with the computer I am using; but, whatever the reason (it may be the background), the page itself does not take up the entire screen.
I have been looking at a Sam Purse catalogue and the page space ratio is 50%/50% -- picture space (large and up close) to caption/copy with the picture always being first and/or larger that the verbiage.
(This is Alexis)...I would say, in line with part of our discussion at Julie's house, that "Partners" should be changed to "Cooperatives" since that more closely captures your relationship with them rather than a formal partnership. Regarding the Home Page, can we make a bullet point or have some pics that show or describe what these children are forced to turn to the OTHER 26 days? I.e. child prostitution, stealing, drug running, etc. They have no Social Services like we do in the U.S., so there is no "backup" plan when the parents pass... Not trying to say we should use "scare tactics" and overload on the negative, but I think it's important to show what they are forced to decide in light of their starvation the other 26 days...make sense? Maybe also enlarge and bold the font saying "Welcome to HIHIA"?
